About the Committee
The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is one of the principal organs of the United Nations and a key committee at our Model United Nations conference. ECOSOC focuses on addressing global economic, social, and environmental challenges through dialogue, collaboration, and policymaking. Delegates in this committee will debate pressing issues such as poverty reduction, sustainable development, public health, education, and human rights, aiming to craft innovative and realistic resolutions. By representing their assigned countries, participants will gain insight into international diplomacy, negotiation, and the complexities of achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ECOSOC offers a dynamic environment for delegates to develop practical solutions that reflect both national interests and global responsibility.
Topic 1: Addressing Global Youth Unemployment
Youth unemployment has become one of the key issues shaping global discussions on development and equality. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), young people are nearly three times more likely to be unemployed than adults.
Around the world, millions of young people are unable to find stable jobs, and many more are working in poor conditions or without proper pay. This problem not only limits personal opportunities but also slows down economic growth and increases social instability.
If left unresolved, youth unemployment could become a defining crisis for the next generation and also the previous one, because there won't be any retirement money.
Topic 2: Making Cities More Sustainable and Liveable in Developing Nations
Many cities in developing countries face problems like pollution, traffic, and poor housing. This topic focuses on finding ways to make cities cleaner, greener, and better places to live for everyone.
